What documents do you need for the Illinois real estate exam?

The document depends on the stage. A standard candidate uploads the approved course certificate for PSI eligibility. An endorsement candidate follows transcript and good-standing requirements. On exam day, every candidate needs one acceptable photo-and-signature ID whose name matches the booking. Keep the confirmations and score report for the licensing stage.

Which documents do you need?

Short answer: Standard route: course certificate before scheduling and one acceptable matching ID on exam day. Endorsement route: Uniform Real Estate Transcript, good-standing proof, and route-specific records. Attorney route: no pre-scheduling upload under the current booklet, but acceptable exam-day ID still applies.

Do not use one document for another stage

A course certificate proves education for eligibility. It does not replace exam-day ID. An appointment email confirms a reservation. It does not replace either document.

What does a standard candidate upload to PSI?

The standard route requires 75 approved hours:

60 hours of Broker Pre-License Topics.
15 hours of Broker Pre-License Applied Real Estate Principles Interactive.

After satisfactory completion, obtain the approved course certificate and keep the original. Upload a complete, clear copy in the PSI registration flow. The current booklet says the education is valid for two years after satisfactory completion.

Before uploading, check:

Your name is accurate and consistent with the PSI account.
The education provider and course were IDFPR-approved.
The completion information is visible.
The file is complete, legible, and not cropped.
You retained a copy outside the PSI upload.

Do you upload a diploma to PSI?

A high school diploma or equivalent is a standard eligibility condition. The current PSI scheduling flow specifically directs standard candidates to upload the course certificate. It does not say every standard candidate must upload a diploma during that step.

Keep the diploma or equivalent record available because it supports the underlying qualification and may be relevant if PSI or IDFPR asks for additional documentation. Follow an official request rather than uploading unrelated personal records speculatively.

What documents do attorney candidates use?

The current PSI booklet says an attorney candidate who is at least 18 and admitted to practice by the Illinois Supreme Court does not need prior eligibility approval or a document upload before scheduling.

That changes the pre-scheduling step, not the exam-day identity requirement or IDFPR's licensing authority. Choose the attorney path, bring acceptable matching ID, and follow any current verification or application request from PSI or IDFPR.

What documents do endorsement candidates use?

PSI lists an approved 30-hour Broker Pre-License Endorsement Course and a Uniform Real Estate Transcript documenting that education. The route also requires an equivalent active license in good standing.

Build an endorsement file with:

The Uniform Real Estate Transcript.
Proof of good standing from each relevant jurisdiction.
Information identifying the equivalent active license.
PSI route communications and confirmations.
IDFPR endorsement application records.

Use the IDFPR Real Estate Brokerage page and current PSI instructions for the exact route. Do not treat an out-of-state license card alone as a complete Illinois endorsement application.

How do you prevent a name mismatch?

Choose the exact ID you plan to present.
Compare its first and last name with the PSI account.
Compare both with the appointment confirmation.
Review spelling, spacing, hyphens, and legal-name changes.
Contact PSI before the appointment if any part is inconsistent.

Resolve the mismatch before check-in

PSI says failure to present proper identification invalidates the registration, prevents testing as scheduled, and forfeits the fee. Do not assume a proctor can edit the account.

Store records in a secure location. Avoid sending sensitive identity documents through unverified channels or attaching them to a general support message.

What do you need after passing?

PSI displays the result on screen and emails the score report. Save it. Passing does not issue the broker license automatically. Follow the report and IDFPR instructions and satisfy the remaining license requirements.

The current booklet says to apply to IDFPR within one year after passing. Missing the window causes the examination accreditation to be lost and requires the appropriate examination again.
