How to register for the Illinois broker exam
Standard Illinois broker candidates register through PSI, upload the required approved course certificate and wait for eligibility confirmation before booking an appointment. Use a first and last name that match your test-day ID. The Illinois attorney category has a separate no-prior-approval scheduling path; endorsement candidates need the correct endorsement records.

Which broker registration route applies?
Start at the PSI Illinois Real Estate Examination Program. This guide concerns the initial broker exam. Managing broker, residential leasing agent and instructor examinations are separate choices.

The PSI booklet dated June 24, 2026, printed pages 1 and 3-6 explains the examination routes and registration. The attorney education exception in 225 ILCS 454/5-27(b) requires current Illinois admission and active standing. It does not waive the examination.
Using an out-of-state license?
New reciprocal-agreement license applications are no longer accepted from January 1, 2026 under Section 5-60.1. Previously granted reciprocal licenses are treated separately. Do not choose an old reciprocity category from an outdated school walkthrough.
For endorsement, keep two document stages separate. PSI lists the approved 30-hour course transcript for the examination route and says good-standing proof is needed at the license-application stage. Rule 1450.460(a) requires official licensing statements and other documents for the later DRE application. Do not assume a PSI upload submits that application, or that an ordinary license screenshot replaces every official statement. The booklet has an inconsistent Managing Broker label inside its Broker Endorsement paragraph; Rule 1450.460 is specifically for brokers. If the displayed exam route is unclear, confirm it with PSI before paying.
How do you register and book?
- Finish the requirements for your route. Standard candidates need satisfactory completion of the approved 75-hour education. Save the complete certificate and completion date.
- Open the official PSI program. Sign in to your existing account or create one. Use the first and last name shown on the current, valid government-issued ID you will present.
- Check the exam and category. Confirm Illinois broker and your qualification route before attaching documents or paying.
- Provide the required record. Follow the certificate or transcript instructions for that route. Illinois attorney candidates have the booklet's separate no-upload path.
- Confirm eligibility when required. For the standard route, wait for PSI's approval email and check the account for instructions. A successful upload is not the same as approval.
- Choose and confirm the appointment. Select test-center or remote delivery, an available date and time, and pay the $58 broker examination fee. Save the completed booking confirmation.
The booklet's screenshots show entry points such as Tests and Login/Register. Use the live program rather than treating an old screenshot as a promise that every button, field or screen will stay in the same place. This review did not create or inspect a private candidate account.
Before paying, check the name, exam, delivery format, date, displayed time zone and test-center address or remote launch instructions. If you need an accommodation, use the accommodations guide before booking so the appointment matches the approved arrangement. For remote delivery, run the system check on the computer you plan to use.

Example: the course is done, but the date is not booked
Maya finishes her course and uploads the certificate on Friday. She has no approval or appointment confirmation yet. She should check for PSI's response, rather than arrange travel for a test date she has only seen as available.
What should you check if registration stalls?
- Unreadable or incomplete record: compare the requested document with the file you sent. Keep the full name, course details and completion information legible.
- Wrong route: ask PSI how to correct the existing registration. Do not select a different qualification just to get past a document request.
- Name mismatch: resolve it with PSI before test day. See the identification guide for admission requirements.
- No email: check the account, spam folder and requests for correction. A missing email does not prove either approval or denial. Leave time for review and appointment availability.
- Existing account trouble: ask PSI to help with that account before making a duplicate that could separate your records.
Paid, but no appointment appears?
- Reopen the same PSI account. Look for an appointment, not just an order or an eligibility status. Check the examination, portions, test-center or remote method, date, time and displayed time zone.
- Check the confirmation email and spam folder. If the account shows a booking but the email is missing, save the appointment details and ask PSI to confirm anything unclear.
- Keep the receipt or transaction reference, payment date, visible error and account status. If your bank shows a pending entry, report it as pending rather than assuming PSI settled the charge.
- Ask PSI whether the payment was received, whether an appointment exists and what action to take on that existing record. Check with PSI before trying another payment or creating another account.
You can say: “Illinois broker exam. Payment attempted [date and time]. My account shows [status], and I have no appointment confirmation. The transaction reference is [reference]. Please confirm the payment and booking status and the next step.” Use PSI’s official channel; keep passwords, full card numbers and security codes out of this message.
This is a troubleshooting checklist, not a promise that a charge will reverse or a date will remain available. Do not send payment records or candidate identifiers to Pass Illinois. We cannot confirm or repair a PSI booking.
The booklet lists PSI at 855-340-3893. Use the official program's current contact options if the correct next step is unclear. Describe the exam, route, submission date, visible status and exact error; keep passwords out of the message.
Check education approval too. The IDFPR Real Estate Brokerage page links both approved providers and approved courses. Its current notice says courses offered by ABR Real Estate Corporation, doing business as Real Estate School of Illinois, no longer satisfy Illinois education requirements effective December 16, 2025 until further notice. If that notice could affect your certificate, ask DRE about your course and completion dates; do not infer that every historical certificate has the same outcome.
Which deadlines matter before you choose a date?
Keep the clocks separate. PSI says the relevant pre-license education is valid for two years after satisfactory completion. Its fee terms say the examination fee is forfeited if you do not test within one year after PSI receives it. An account creation date does not replace either starting point, and paying does not extend expired education. For example, a certificate nearing its two-year limit is not made current for another year just because you pay the exam fee today.

Illinois broker exam registration questions
I paid PSI but have no exam booking confirmation. What should I do?
First check the same PSI account for an actual appointment with the correct exam, portions, delivery method, date and time. Check email and spam too. A payment receipt alone does not establish a reserved slot. Save the receipt or transaction reference, time and error screen. Contact PSI through the Illinois program to ask whether payment and booking were recorded before paying again. If an appointment is close, contact PSI promptly rather than treating this checklist as cancellation notice. We cannot inspect your account or promise a refund, held slot or resolution time.
Can I schedule before finishing the 75-hour broker course?
A standard candidate must successfully complete the required approved education and follow PSI's certificate-review process. A course purchase or progress screen does not establish completion. Creating an account is different from being eligible to book. The Illinois attorney route has a separate education exception; do not select it merely to avoid an upload.
How long does PSI eligibility approval take?
The June 24, 2026 booklet says PSI will approve and email confirmation, but the relevant registration instructions do not publish a guaranteed turnaround. Check the account, email and any request for correction. If the next step is unclear, contact PSI through the official program. An upload date does not reserve an appointment.
Does an Illinois attorney need approval or an upload before scheduling?
The booklet's broker Category C says attorney candidates can pay and schedule without prior eligibility approval or a document upload. The statutory education exception requires current Illinois Supreme Court admission and active standing. This exception does not waive the broker exam or turn an attorney's admission in another state into the Illinois qualification.
Is the broker exam fee the same as the Illinois license fee?
No. The booklet lists a $58 broker examination fee, payable through the appointment process, with nonrefundable and nontransferable terms. Applying for the license through IDFPR is a separate step with separate requirements and fees. Paying PSI does not submit or approve the license application.
Check the booking before you leave PSI
Use the scheduling guide to check the completed appointment. A course certificate, eligibility email, payment receipt and booking confirmation each serve a different purpose. Keep them together so you can find the right record when a question comes up.
