Illinois real estate exam ID requirements
Bring one valid, unexpired government-issued ID with your photograph and signature. Its first and last name must exactly match your PSI booking. Temporary state IDs are listed subject to the same conditions. U.S. military ID is not allowed for remote testing.

Do you need one ID or two for the Illinois exam?
The Illinois booklet requires one qualifying form of identification. A second unrelated card does not establish that your main document meets the conditions. Choose the document you plan to present and check it against your appointment record.

Which government-issued IDs does the booklet list?

Every form still has to meet the document conditions. For remote testing, check your appointment instructions and resolve an unusual format with PSI. The list does not approve every version of each document for remote check-in. A school card, work badge, course certificate or appointment email does not meet the listed government-ID requirement.
Can you use a temporary driver's license or state ID?
Temporary state-issued licenses and IDs appear in the list. That listing still requires a valid, unexpired document containing a photograph and signature. Look at the document you received after renewal or replacement, rather than assuming every temporary paper has those features.
Example: a renewal receipt has no photograph
A candidate has a renewal receipt without a photograph and an expired card with a photograph. The booklet does not establish that this combination qualifies. The candidate needs PSI's direction or another qualifying ID before relying on those records for the appointment.
Tell PSI the exam, delivery method, document type and missing feature. Ask what it will require. Keep the response with the appointment confirmation. If you have another listed ID, check its features and booking name as well. Do not wait for a replacement card to arrive without considering whether your appointment needs to change.
What changes for remote testing or a foreign ID?
The Illinois list explicitly excludes military ID for remote testing. If that is the ID you planned to use, arrange another qualifying document or obtain PSI's instructions about your booking before the appointment.
Foreign passports and government IDs are listed. PSI's general support FAQ, question 2 also asks for the name in the English alphabet. If the writing system, transliteration or document format creates a matching question, ask PSI how to resolve it for the Illinois exam. A translation is not automatically an accepted substitute.
Follow your remote check-in instructions for presenting the ID. Keep the document ready and readable. A technical compatibility check does not answer whether PSI accepts your identification. The remote versus test-center guide covers the broader delivery choice.
What if the name on your ID and booking differs?
Compare the booking with the actual first and last name on the ID. Check spelling, a former surname, omitted characters, hyphens and spaces. Contact PSI about any difference before the appointment.

Ask PSI which correction or supporting record it needs. Bringing a marriage certificate or court order to the desk without that direction may leave the mismatch unresolved. Save the reply and any revised confirmation so you can show what was corrected.
Give support the detail it needs
“I am taking the Illinois broker exam on [date], by [test center or remote]. I plan to use [document type]. The issue is [name difference or missing feature]. Which document or booking correction is required before this appointment?”
Start with a description of the issue. Follow PSI's official instructions if it requests supporting records, and keep the case reference with the response.
What happens if your identification is not acceptable?
PSI says improper identification invalidates the registration, prevents testing as scheduled and forfeits the examination fee. An extra course certificate or appointment email does not resolve that problem.
If you cannot obtain a qualifying document in time, contact PSI and check the cancellation and rescheduling rules before the change deadline. A support request does not itself establish that a booking has been changed or a fee protected.
More questions about exam identification
Does my ID need a REAL ID star?
PSI's Illinois booklet does not list a REAL ID star as an admission condition. Check the document features and appointment instructions described here. A star alone does not show that your ID meets the exam rules.
What if my middle name or initial is different?
The scheduling rule specifically names the first and last name. The booklet does not settle every middle-name, initial or suffix variation. Ask PSI whether this difference needs correcting before you change the booking or arrive for check-in.
Can I show a screenshot, photocopy or digital wallet ID?
Prepare the government-issued document itself unless PSI confirms another format for your appointment. The booklet passages cited here do not confirm acceptance of photographs, copies or digital wallets. Ask about the exact format you intend to use before relying on it.
