How do you cancel or reschedule the Illinois real estate exam?
PSI's Illinois booklet allows cancellation and rescheduling without forfeiting the fee when notice is received two days before the exam date. What does the two-day notice rule mean?
The PSI Illinois booklet, June 24, 2026, printed page 7 says PSI must receive cancellation notice two days before the scheduled exam date to avoid forfeiture. Its example uses the previous Saturday for a Monday appointment.
The example gives a date, not an exact hour
Check the deadline shown for your appointment. The passage does not specify a universal cutoff hour or time zone, so the Saturday example does not show that Saturday evening is safe. A personal 48-hour calculation may also miss the actual cutoff. Ask PSI if the instruction is unclear, and act early enough to fix a failed change.
PSI's public Illinois portal FAQ uses a typical two-business-day rule, then directs readers to the Candidate Bulletin for rescheduling rules. Use the Illinois booklet's specific guidance. If the account shows a different cutoff, ask PSI to confirm which instruction applies before relying on the later one.
How do you change the appointment online or by phone?
- Sign in through the PSI Illinois Real Estate program and open your booked exam.
- Read the notice deadline and any warning about releasing the current slot.
- Use the available cancellation or rescheduling control and review the action before confirming it.
- For a replacement appointment, check the exam or portion, delivery method, date, time zone and location or remote details.
- Finish the change, check the resulting appointment status and save the confirmation.
For phone changes, call the number listed in the Illinois booklet, (855) 340-3893, and speak with a customer-service representative. Have the exam name, current appointment, candidate reference and acceptable replacement dates ready. Ask how to obtain confirmation of the completed action.
The booklet expressly excludes voicemail as a cancellation method. If online controls fail or the call does not connect, continue through the official website or representative route. A general support inquiry does not show that the appointment has been changed.

Does timely cancellation give you a refund?
The booklet states that exam fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable (printed page 3). Its timely-change rule protects against forfeiture when the conditions are met. That does not promise a cash refund, a transfer to another candidate or an unlimited period to use the payment.
The fee is forfeited if you do not test within one year after PSI receives it. Track the original payment record. Do not assume each reschedule starts a new year. The exam-cost guide covers the published fee and other costs. Check any charge shown before confirming the change.

Use the ID requirements and exam-day checklist early enough to resolve a problem before the change deadline. A fee question and an exam-attempt question are separate; use the retake guide if your recorded attempt history is unclear.
What if the website fails, remote testing breaks or the center closes?
For a failed online change, save the error, time, appointment reference and any case number. Contact PSI while there is still time to complete the change. Ask whether the original booking is active and what action remains. Keep the error record to explain what happened. It does not itself preserve the fee.
Example: you selected a date but received no confirmation
Nora selects a new date, then the website fails before showing a completed change. Her selection does not confirm a replacement seat or settle the original appointment's status. She should check the booking and ask PSI which appointment remains active and whether it received the change in time.
When speaking to a representative, ask: “For my Illinois broker exam on [date, time and time zone], was the cancellation received before the required cutoff? Which appointment is now active, and what confirmation and fee status should I see?”
For remote launch or compatibility problems, use PSI's official support route and keep the incident details. The booklet has separate remote-start requirements. A technical problem does not establish a free replacement or deadline extension. Check the remote system guide before the appointment.
When PSI closes a center for severe weather or another emergency, the booklet says it will reschedule the examination and attempt to contact candidates (printed page 7). Check the official program page or call PSI for the appointment's status. A personal travel problem does not establish that PSI has closed the center.
If a necessary accommodation is pending or the replacement booking does not show the approved setup, use the accommodation guide and ask PSI how to arrange the change. Confirm both the appointment and the required conditions.

Is only one free reschedule allowed?
The current Illinois broker booklet describes the notice needed to avoid forfeiting the fee. It does not specify a one-change limit or promise unlimited changes. Ask PSI about repeat changes, any charge and your remaining eligibility. Older handbooks and other exams may use different rules.
Will my original slot be held while I look for another date?
Do not assume it will. Read any warning before confirming a cancellation or rebooking control. If it says the current slot will be released and you are unsure when that happens, ask PSI before proceeding. A date shown in an availability search is not a confirmed replacement appointment.
Can illness or an emergency get the late-cancellation fee waived?
The cited Illinois cancellation section does not guarantee an illness or personal-emergency waiver. Contact PSI promptly, explain the situation and ask which records or review process apply. Keep its decision. Do not treat a request or another candidate's refund story as a waiver for your appointment.
