Where do you submit the accommodation request?
Open PSI's Test Accommodations Request form. The older request page linked from the Illinois booklet now redirects to this PSI Helpdesk form. It includes ILLINOIS REAL ESTATE in the Program menu.
- Enter the Illinois broker exam name and select the matching program.
- Complete the contact, registration-status and location fields accurately.
- Describe the testing barrier and requested adjustment. Attach the relevant support requested for your situation.
- Read the form's consent and privacy information, submit through the official process and keep the request reference.

What if you need language support or a translation aid?
Confirm exam-language options with PSI separately from a disability-related accommodation. A course taught in Spanish, help communicating with IDFPR and an adjustment to a PSI exam are different arrangements.
Language guidance checked October 29, 2026: the current Illinois booklet and PSI's public broker test details do not confirm a Spanish exam, a spoken-language interpreter option or an automatic extra-time allowance for candidates who use English as a second language. This gap does not establish an English-only rule or decide whether a particular request is available.

For a disability-related reading or communication need, describe the task that is difficult and the aid or service you are requesting. Follow the documentation guidance below. Do not assume that a reader, interpreter, extra time or translation tool is approved merely because you submitted the form.
The booklet's standard security rules prohibit reference materials, outside resources and unauthorized assistance. Get the applicable instructions before relying on a bilingual dictionary, translation app or another person during the exam. Any decision should explain what is permitted, which portions and delivery format it covers, and how to arrange the appointment.
For exam-language questions, start with the public Illinois broker listing or the booklet's Illinois number, (855) 340-3893. The language checklist gives you three questions to ask. IDFPR's free language services apply to its own services; they do not establish an interpreter arrangement inside a PSI exam.
Do you need a request or a pre-approved comfort aid?
PSI's comfort-aids policy covers test-center and online assessments. Listed items do not need a formal accommodation request when the stated conditions are met. Examples include inhalers, hearing aids, mobility devices, service animals and attached glucose monitors. Visual inspection and item-specific conditions still apply.

- If a medical device's alerts cannot be silenced, PSI directs the candidate to request an accommodation.
- Pills generally must be unwrapped. When the packaging says they must remain in it, PSI allows that packaging and requires showing it at check-in.
- PSI test centers provide tissues; remote candidates provide their own. Tissues at third-party test centers require accommodation approval.
A device appearing on the list does not establish permission to use a connected phone or to leave for a break. Describe those needs as well. Check the full policy for your item rather than treating the examples here as a complete packing list.
Example: an inhaler and a break request
A candidate needs an inhaler, which is on the comfort-aids list, and also needs breaks beyond the standard rules. The inhaler listing settles the item question under its conditions. It does not settle the break request. The candidate should describe the break need to PSI and confirm the arrangement and delivery method before relying on it.
What documentation should you prepare?
Start with the support you already have and the adjustment you are requesting. The U.S. Department of Justice's testing-accommodations guidance says documentation requests must be reasonable and limited to the need for the accommodation. The appropriate evidence depends on the request. Candidates do not all need the same package.
- Relevant support can include a qualified professional's recommendation, prior accommodation records or other evidence of the testing need.
- Proof of the same accommodations on a similar exam, together with certification of a current disability-related need, should generally support the same arrangements.
- Having no previous formal accommodation does not exclude a candidate from receiving one. Explain the current need and relevant history.
Follow the current request instructions. If PSI asks for more information, ask what is missing and how it relates to the adjustment. Do not assume you must purchase a new evaluation before asking which existing records will support the request.
Explain the testing need in plain language
“During a timed exam, [barrier] affects my ability to [testing task]. I am requesting [adjustment]. My supporting records explain [relevant need or prior arrangement].”
Replace the brackets with your actual circumstances. Focus on the testing difficulty and the change that would address it. This outline does not replace any supporting record PSI needs.
When should you schedule, and what should approval confirm?
Start the request early and ask PSI how to book with the needed arrangements. If you already have an appointment, include its details in the request. A standard reservation does not show that a pending adjustment has been added. Ask about the booking before changing or cancelling it.

Get the decision and instructions in writing, and keep them with the appointment record. Standard Illinois remote exams do not allow breaks. If you need a break, confirm how PSI will arrange it and which delivery method to book. Check that the instructions cover the appointment you will actually take.

How do the arrangements work on exam day?
- Have your qualifying ID and decision record ready for check-in.
- Present permitted items for inspection as directed.
- Confirm the timing, equipment and other agreed conditions before starting.
- If something differs, ask the administrator or proctor to verify it and contact the appropriate PSI team.
Raise a missing arrangement before you begin, rather than hoping it can be corrected after scoring. Use the ID guide and exam-day checklist for the ordinary check-in steps.
Keep study support separate from exam arrangements
The English terminology study path and free vocabulary cards can help with private study. If you prefer practice on your phone, you can download Pass Illinois for original questions and explanations. The app does not approve an accommodation or authorize a translation aid on exam day.
More questions about exam accommodations
Can I request extra time for ADHD, anxiety or another disability?
You can ask for disability-related testing accommodations through PSI. Explain how the condition affects taking the exam and the adjustment you need. A diagnosis does not, by itself, determine the particular arrangement. Use the documentation guidance below and ask PSI to confirm the decision and scheduling steps for your request.
How many days does accommodation approval take?
No fixed Illinois approval time was stated in the public sources checked for this guide. Submit early, keep the request reference and ask for an update as your intended exam date approaches. DOJ guidance calls for timely responses. It does not give a universal number of days for this process.
What if my request is pending, denied or only partly approved?
Read the response to identify any missing information or the reason for the decision. Ask PSI how to provide a correction or request further review, and confirm what happens to any existing appointment. Keep the correspondence. A question to the test-day proctor does not establish that the requested arrangement has been approved.
Does using English as a second language automatically give me extra time?
Do not assume it does. The public Illinois sources checked here do not publish an automatic ESL time extension or a translated-exam option. Ask PSI about your language need before booking. A disability-related testing need belongs in the accommodation request process and must be considered on its own circumstances.
Does IDFPR language assistance mean an interpreter can join my PSI exam?
No such exam permission is established by IDFPR's language-services page. Its assistance is for communication with the agency. Ask PSI separately about the exam arrangement and any approval required. Do not bring an interpreter or translation aid on the assumption that an agency service authorizes it.
