Are breaks allowed on the Illinois real estate exam?
At a PSI test center, you may leave the exam room only for the restroom after getting the proctor's permission. No extra exam time is added. Standard remote-proctored exams allow no breaks. Arrange any disability-related break request before booking.

What should you do if you need the restroom at a test center?
- Get the proctor's attention and ask permission before leaving.
- Follow the administrator's directions for leaving and returning.
- Use only the permitted restroom visit. Do not access a phone, notes or other prohibited material.
- Return promptly and resume with the time remaining.
The booklet promises no replacement time. Allow for time spent requesting permission and following any return checks, as well as the visit itself. Ask the center about its procedure during check-in; this guide does not assign a universal checkout form or reentry time.
Example: the visit uses eight minutes
A fictional candidate has 33 minutes left before asking permission. If permission, the visit and reentry use eight minutes of the exam clock, 25 minutes remain: 33 - 8 = 25. This is planning arithmetic, not an official break allowance or a promise that the procedure takes eight minutes.

Can you pause a remote exam for a bathroom break?
Do not leave the camera view or room on your own. An error message, proctor delay or transition between portions does not establish permission for a personal break. Use the proctor channel to explain a problem and follow the response.
Before launch, use the restroom and check the remote-room requirements. If uninterrupted testing will not work for you, resolve the format or approved arrangement before exam day. Ask PSI how an interruption affects your appointment; do not assume a free replacement.
How do you arrange disability-related breaks?
Use the PSI accommodation request process before scheduling an appointment that depends on a modified break rule. An ordinary test-center restroom visit does not promise scheduled breaks, extra time or access to particular items.
Confirm the actual arrangement
Ask whether the approved break pauses the timer, how you request it, which items you may access and which delivery format is available. Follow the written arrangement. A request or a clinician's letter alone is not confirmation that an appointment has those conditions.
Food, water, medication and medical devices can involve separate comfort-aid or accommodation conditions. Check the current item-specific instructions in the linked guide instead of assuming that every item needs advance approval or that everything is allowed.
For an unresolved booking or incident, use official PSI support. Keep its response and the appointment reference. PSI must confirm the conditions for your own appointment.
Illinois exam break questions
Is there a scheduled break between the national and Illinois portions?
The cited Illinois break instructions do not promise an intermission between portions. Do not treat the transition screen as permission to leave. Before booking, ask PSI how your delivery format handles the transition and any approved break arrangement.
Does the tutorial give you extra break time?
No. The booklet provides an introductory tutorial of up to 15 minutes outside examination time. It does not describe that time as a break allowance. Use it to learn the controls and follow the proctor's instructions before the exam begins.
What if an urgent problem interrupts my exam?
Get the proctor's attention when possible and follow instructions. Address an immediate safety need first. Afterward, keep the appointment and incident references and contact PSI about your record. A personal emergency does not establish an automatic refund, free retake or valid score.
