PSI remote exam guide
Can you take the Illinois real estate exam online?
Yes. PSI offers remote online proctoring, subject to availability and the current technical, identity, room, launch, and monitoring rules. Online testing removes the trip, but it also removes scratch paper, physical calculators, and breaks. Choose it only when your setup is more reliable than a test-center visit.
Is the Illinois broker exam available online?
Short answer: Yes. After eligibility, choose an available remote appointment in the PSI Illinois Real Estate Examination Program. Complete the compatibility checks and follow the confirmation and proctor instructions.

How do you book the online exam?
- Complete the eligibility process for your broker route.
- Sign in to the PSI Illinois examination program.
- Select the exact Illinois Real Estate Broker examination.
- Choose online or remote-proctored delivery.
- Select an available date and time.
- Pay the current $58 broker examination fee.
- Read the confirmation for the time zone, launch, ID, system, cancellation, and support instructions.
Registration and eligibility come before booking for a standard candidate. Use the Illinois broker registration guide if PSI has not approved the account.
What technology do you need?
PSI requires compatibility checks that cover the computer and system, webcam, audio, and video. Internet service must be sufficient for continuous remote administration.
Use this preflight discipline:
- Run PSI's current checks on the computer you will use.
- Use the same browser, webcam, microphone, and network.
- Connect power and prevent automatic sleep or shutdown.
- Close unrelated software and follow the PSI launch steps.
- Do not change computers during the examination.
- Resolve warnings before the appointment-change deadline.
A passed check is a snapshot, not a guarantee
A different computer, browser update, network change, webcam change, firewall, or new software can alter the result. Rerun the official check near test day on the exact setup.
What room can you use for remote testing?
Use a private, adequately lit space where the proctor can maintain the required view and no person enters or communicates with you. Remove prohibited paper, electronics, food, drink, and personal items from reach and view.

Prepare the room before launch. Do not assume the proctor will allow time to reorganize an unsuitable space after the appointment begins.
How do identification and check-in work?
Use one current, valid, unexpired government-issued ID with a photograph and signature. The first and last name must match the PSI booking. A U.S. military ID is not allowed for remote testing.
Present the ID through the official proctored process and follow the camera instructions. Do not send identity documents to a general support address or unofficial channel.
The Illinois PSI identification guide lists every accepted type and the fee consequences of a mismatch.
When should you launch the exam?
The current booklet says the examination can be launched within 30 minutes of the booked time. It also warns that failing to start within 15 minutes after the scheduled time can forfeit the fee or eligibility.
Follow the appointment clock
Do not turn the two statements into your own arrival formula. Sign in early, follow the launch control and confirmation, and contact official PSI support immediately if launch fails.
How are you monitored?
Remote testing is proctored. PSI can require a continuous view of the candidate and work area and enforce rules about hands, eyes, face, speaking, movement, devices, people, and the testing space.
- Stay on the approved computer and in the approved room.
- Keep the required camera view.
- Do not talk, whisper, mouth words, or cover your mouth.
- Do not reach for prohibited items or devices.
- Do not let another person enter or communicate with you.
- Follow proctor directions promptly.
A security violation can end the session or invalidate the result. Treat the room as a controlled examination space, not a normal home office.

Practice under the format you booked. If your math method depends on written setup or a handheld calculator, the online versus test-center comparison may point you to a test center.
Does the online format change the exam?
The delivery conditions change, not the knowledge standard:
- 100 scored national questions and 40 scored Illinois questions.
- 70% raw passing standard for national.
- 75% passing standard for Illinois.
- Separate results for the two portions.
- Possible unidentified experimental questions.
- The same current national and Illinois content outlines.
Remote is not easier because it happens at home. The additional technology and room rules can make it the higher-risk format for an otherwise prepared candidate.
Who should not choose the online exam?
Choose a test center when you:
- Need scratch paper for reliable math setup.
- Want to use a physical calculator.
- May need a restroom break.
- Cannot guarantee privacy for the full appointment.
- Have unstable internet, power, webcam, audio, or computer.
- Cannot control people, pets, deliveries, or noise.
- Focus better in a formal testing environment.
If you change the delivery method, use PSI's current rescheduling process and protect the two-day notice deadline.
Practice for the format you booked
Remote rules belong in the study plan
Test your knowledge without the tools remote forbids
Pass Illinois gives you original national and state questions, explanations, flashcards, Math Coach, and separate readiness. Start free, practice without paper or a physical calculator when remote is booked, and find the categories that still need work.
