Illinois real estate exam: official sources and updates

Short answer: Use the PSI Candidate Information Booklet for the exam program. Check your PSI account and confirmation for your appointment. Use IDFPR for licensing procedures and education approvals. Read the statute or rule for the legal requirement itself.

These sources answer different questions. An appointment confirmation gives booking instructions; it does not change a licensing statute. If your confirmation conflicts with the program instructions, ask PSI to clarify it before test day.

IDFPR also links the License Act and rules under Laws and Rules on its brokerage page. Use that directory if an Illinois General Assembly link changes or is temporarily unavailable.

PSI's booklet and Illinois landing page still disagree about the total duration. The booklet's portion times add up to four hours; the landing page gives 3.5 hours.

Open the booklet and the PSI landing page to compare them. Then check your booked appointment. If its testing time is unclear, contact PSI and ask it to confirm the time for each portion and the total time for your appointment. Keep the reply with your booking records.

Check the exam title and portion before comparing numbers. The June 24, 2026 booklet's broker summary gives:

Printed page 11 explains that national 70% raw is equivalent to the previously reported scaled 75. Both describe the same passing standard on different reporting scales.

The Illinois broker outline has four areas: Licensing Requirements (4 questions), License Act (16), Additional Illinois Laws and Regulations (10), and Disclosures (10). Those counts total 40. They apply to whole areas, not to each lesson within an area.

1. Match the exam. Confirm Illinois, the broker license and the correct portion. Managing broker and leasing agent materials serve different exams.
2. Open the source. Read the relevant PDF page or official section, including its footnotes. A search snippet may leave out a condition.
3. Separate the dates. Record the booklet edition, the legal effective date when relevant, and the date you checked it. A page's latest edit is not automatically a new legal effective date.
4. Check the conditions. Ask whether the statement applies to your route, delivery mode or situation. Provider approval and approval of the exact course are separate checks.
5. Resolve a real conflict. Keep both statements and their links. Ask PSI about exam instructions or IDFPR about licensing. Save the answer instead of guessing which number to use.

For example, a forum answer that says “75 to pass” needs context. Is it describing the Illinois portion, the old national scaled result or another exam? The exam name and score label change the meaning. The booklet's summary and footnote let you check it.

A prep book, forum thread or AI summary can help you find a question to investigate. Keep the official source open while checking the answer.

The October 11 corrections included Contracts at 19 scored national questions, Transfer of Title at 6, and Illinois Licensing Requirements at 4. An area allocation is shared across its subtopics.

A claim record identifies the source section, edition or effective date, review date and affected page. If official sources disagree, the page explains the conflict and the reader's next step.

We distinguish a factual correction from a source update and a wording edit. Fixing a typo does not establish a new factual review. A review also does not guarantee that an official source will remain unchanged after that date.

Include the source's date if it has one. That helps distinguish an outdated statement from a difference between exam routes. Do not send live or recalled secured exam questions, account credentials or private appointment records.
