How long is an Illinois real estate exam pass valid?
PSI gives successful candidates one year after receiving a passing exam score to submit the IDFPR application and meet all licensing requirements. This is the application window after the required exam, not a promise about how long a single passed portion can be carried through retakes.

What must you complete within one year?
Both steps matter: submit the application and meet all requirements for licensure. A submission receipt alone does not show that every requirement has been met.

Start the application work promptly. Follow the current instructions for your route and intended license status rather than a checklist that assumes every broker applicant has the same documentation.
Which date controls if you passed the portions separately?
The booklet uses the date of receiving a passing exam score. It does not explain in these instructions how to calculate your application deadline when national and Illinois pass dates differ. Do not pick the later date automatically.
Keep both dates until the deadline is confirmed
For example, a candidate passes national in March and Illinois in June. Keep both reports. Ask IDFPR which date controls the application window for that examination record, and ask PSI to clarify the recorded results if needed. The three-month gap needs clarification. It does not establish an extra three months for the application.
If only one portion has passed, you still have a retake question. Use the retake rules and confirm your remaining eligibility with PSI. Do not use the post-pass application window as a guarantee that a partial score remains usable.
Does a pending application preserve the passing score?
Do not assume that filing pauses the clock or that a pending status proves all requirements are complete. Check for outstanding documents, fees, corrections or other actions identified by IDFPR.
The cited booklet passage states what the applicant must submit and satisfy. It does not say IDFPR must finish processing and issue the license by the same anniversary. Those are different events. This guide cannot decide whether your particular file meets the rule or whether any exception applies.

What happens if the passing score expires?
PSI says failure to submit the application and meet the requirements within the period causes loss of examination accreditation and requires the appropriate examination or examinations again (booklet, printed page 8).
The booklet does not specify national, Illinois or both for every expired record. Obtain direction on your exam and education record before paying for another booking. A pending-file question belongs with IDFPR; exam registration and recorded results can also require PSI help.

What records make a deadline question easier to resolve?
- Both portion reports, with the examination and result dates.
- Your education completion record and application reference.
- The application copy, submission receipt and payment record.
- Requests for corrections, your responses and confirmations.
- Any written instruction about your deadline or remaining requirements.
A focused question for IDFPR
“I am applying for an Illinois broker license. My national pass date is [date] and Illinois pass date is [date]. My application reference is [reference], with status [status]. What deadline applies to this record, and which requirements, if any, remain for me to complete within it?”
Send the relevant records through the agency's official channel. Keep its response with your application file. Do not rely on another candidate's processing time as your deadline.
More questions about passing-score validity
Can I wait until the last day to apply?
That leaves little room to correct a missing requirement. The published rule calls for both submitting the application and meeting licensing requirements within the period. An internal target well before the deadline gives you time to respond to problems; it does not change the official deadline.
Does a saved passing report count as a broker license?
No. It records your examination result. An application receipt records a filing. Neither, by itself, establishes authorization to perform licensed brokerage work. Confirm your authorization and any required sponsorship with IDFPR before relying on the exam result to start work.
Should I wait until I have chosen a sponsoring brokerage?
Do not assume a brokerage search pauses the exam deadline. Ask IDFPR which steps apply to your intended license status and complete them in time. Get clear instructions for sponsorship instead of postponing the entire application until you have chosen a firm.
