How should you solve a description or measurement question?
- Identify whether the question uses metes and bounds, lot and block, government survey, or only an informal locator.

- Draw a simple sketch and label units before calculating.
- For aliquot parts, begin with the whole section's nominal 640 acres and apply each fraction in sequence.
- For site area, divide the shape into rectangles and triangles, compute square feet, then convert units once.
- Use actual stated survey acreage, dimensions, or correction data instead of forcing nominal figures.

How do the rules work in scenarios?
Aliquot acreage
Scenario: A description conveys the N 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of a nominal section with no irregular acreage stated.
- Begin with 640 acres.
- The SE 1/4 contains 160 acres.
- The north half of that quarter contains 80 acres.
Answer: The described tract contains 80 nominal acres.
Rectangular parcel
Scenario: A parcel measures 330 feet by 660 feet.
- Multiply length by width: 330 × 660 = 217,800 square feet.
- Divide by 43,560 square feet per acre.
- 217,800 ÷ 43,560 = 5.
Answer: The parcel contains 5 acres.
Triangular addition
Scenario: An irregular site contains a 100-by-200-foot rectangle plus a right triangle with a 100-foot base and 60-foot height.
- Rectangle area is 20,000 square feet.

Address-only contract
