Illinois real estate exam retake worksheet: rebuild the failed portion

Start with the result and instructions PSI actually supplied. This four-page worksheet helps you confirm the next registration step, identify a few repair priorities and check whether your next practice shows a change.

The resource first

Direct answer: For the standard broker path, PSI permits up to four attempts during the two-year eligibility period. Before the fourth-failure reset, repeat only the portion or portions failed, following your score report. After a fourth failure, a non-exempt broker candidate must repeat the 75-hour pre-license education and the entire examination. Endorsement and education-exempt candidates have different conditions. The free worksheet records your route, score-report evidence and three concrete repairs without reconstructing secure exam questions.

Confirm your route before paying for another attempt

Page 1 is the cover. Page 2 records the completed attempt, national and Illinois results, portion PSI directs you to repeat, eligibility end date and its source. Verify the count in your account or with PSI; do not treat each portion as a fresh allowance of four attempts.

The standard broker four-attempt rule is different from the booklet's broker-endorsement rule, which permits unlimited attempts during its two-year eligibility period. The booklet also states an exception for education-exempt candidates from the listed education-repeat requirements. Confirm how that exception applies to your record before re-enrolling or booking.

Save the score report and follow its reapplication instructions. Check current fees and eligibility. Do not infer a mandatory waiting period, extension or a new eligibility window from the worksheet or an old forum answer.

Copy only the diagnostics PSI provides

Page 3 lists all 11 national areas in published order and all four Illinois areas. Copy diagnostic information actually supplied by PSI. If the report gives no topic score for a row, leave that entry blank. Keep your own practice evidence separate rather than inventing an official score.

The national and state weights each total 100 percent. State allocations are 4 licensing-requirement items, 16 License Act items, 10 additional-laws items and 10 disclosure items. Use repeated errors, uncertainty and category weight to choose the next task; no worksheet entry is a PSI passing prediction.

Choose three repairs you can actually test

Page 4 records three topics, a repeated rule confusion, a reading or timing pattern, a math base or sequence problem, and any source that needs replacing. Give each priority one concrete action and a fresh retest date.

For example, replace “study math” with “identify the loan base before calculating points, then solve a different example tomorrow.” Use original practice questions and cited teaching sources. Do not write down or request secure licensing-exam wording.

  • Explain the deciding rule and why the tempting answer fails.
  • Change one decisive fact and see whether your answer should change.
  • Use questions you have not seen; repeat scores can reflect answer memory.
  • Review pacing, accepted ID, format and booking instructions before choosing the next date.

Use fresh practice as evidence, not a guarantee

Look for a change in the failed portion: fewer repeated errors, explanations you can give without notes and pacing you can sustain. Practice sets vary in difficulty and coverage, so a score from one set is not interchangeable with another or a validated pass forecast.

If the same rule still causes trouble, make the repair smaller and retest it. Confirm your eligibility deadline before extending the plan. A study worksheet cannot approve an attempt, preserve a score or extend an official deadline.

Follow a completed score-to-plan example

Alex, a fictional first-attempt broker candidate, earns an invented 79 of 100 national points and 28 of 40 Illinois points in the worked score-report guide. National passes; Illinois does not. The combined total cannot replace those separate outcomes.

On PDF page 2, record the actual attempt and portion results. On page 3, copy only the diagnostics PSI supplied and leave absent values blank. Keep personal practice observations separate. On page 4, turn those observations into a few specific repairs and new retests.

This web companion links to the completed example; the four-page PDF remains a blank worksheet. The illustration does not reproduce a PSI report, diagnose your result or approve another attempt.

Quick questions

Do I repeat both exam portions after failing one?

For the standard broker path before the fourth-failure reset, PSI requires only the failed portion or portions. A fourth failure changes the standard non-exempt path to repeated education and the entire examination. Confirm your individual route and record.

How many attempts does an Illinois broker candidate receive?

The standard broker path permits up to four attempts during the two-year eligibility period. Broker endorsement candidates have a different unlimited-attempt rule within their two-year eligibility period.

What happens after the fourth failed attempt?

A non-exempt standard broker candidate must repeat the 75-hour pre-license education and the entire examination. The booklet states an exception for education-exempt candidates from the listed education-repeat requirements. Confirm your category and next step with PSI.

Should I copy questions I remember from the exam?

No. Use the score-report diagnostic areas and original practice. Do not record, request, or share secure examination content.

Is the worksheet free?

Yes. It downloads directly without an account, payment, or email address.

Does PSI give a score for every topic in the worksheet?

Record only the diagnostic detail your report actually supplies. Leave a topic entry blank if no official score is provided, and label your own practice evidence separately.

Primary sources and review status
