Diagnose the decision, not your personality
Careless is too vague to repair. A miss usually has a more useful cause: the rule was missing, two concepts were confused, the actor or exception was misread, the math base was wrong, the required sequence was reversed, or the source was outdated.
Choose one primary cause code, then write the exact decision that failed. 'Used sale price instead of loan amount for points' gives the next session something specific to fix. 'Bad at math' does not.
Contrast the tempting answer
A corrected rule is stronger when you can explain why the wrong choice looked plausible and which fact defeats it. This builds discrimination between neighboring concepts instead of familiarity with one answer explanation.
For an agency miss, the deciding fact may be same licensee versus same brokerage. For a contract miss, it may be a counteroffer rather than an acceptance. For math, it may be the denominator or the order in which a tax unit rounds.
- Write the corrected rule in one or two sentences.
- Name the fact that changes the answer.
- Give a fresh example in your own words.
- Schedule an unseen retest instead of repeating the same item.
Use the pattern check weekly
One miss can be noise. Repeated topics or cause codes are a pattern. At the end of the week, count repeats and move the highest-value pattern into the next study plan before adding more new material.
Do not record live examination wording, answer choices, or recalled secure content. Use original practice questions, your own paraphrased rule, and the published PSI blueprint.
Quick questions
Should a correct guess go in the tracker?
Yes. A correct guess does not prove stable knowledge. Log it, repair the reasoning, and retest with an unseen question.
How much of the original question should I copy?
Record the source, topic, number, and your failed decision. Do not copy secure exam content, and avoid duplicating an entire practice question when a short factual cue is enough.
When should I retest?
Use a new question after a delay long enough to require retrieval. Immediate repetition mainly tests memory of the explanation.
What if the same cause repeats?
Treat it as a process problem. A repeated reading code may call for actor-and-verb marking, while repeated math codes may call for a fixed setup checklist.
