Online Illinois real estate classes: choose the format you can finish
You can complete the standard 75-hour broker education online through approved courses. The important distinction is how each course verifies participation. A live webinar has scheduled interaction. Approved online distance education can be interactive without live meetings. Correspondence or home study is a separate category and cannot supply the 15-hour applied course.

Which online formats can count toward the 75 hours?
Both the 60-hour topics course and the 15-hour applied course can use approved online distance education. The applied component can also be a live interactive webinar or classroom course. It cannot be correspondence or home study. Start with the approved delivery category for each component, rather than the word online on the sales page.

“Self-paced” can describe either an interactive online-distance course or a non-interactive home-study course. “No live meetings” does not establish which one you are buying. A provider must explain how the advertised course matches the approved record.

How do you verify the package you are about to buy?
- Open IDFPR's approved provider directory and match the legal provider name, including any DBA, to the seller.
- Click the provider name to inspect its courses. Find the 60-hour Broker Pre-License Topics and 15-hour Applied R.E. Principles - Interactive pre-license rows. Do not substitute post-license, leasing-agent or managing-broker courses.
- Match the advertised delivery method to the marked column on the relevant row. A provider may have separate rows for different approved formats.
- Ask the school which exact rows cover your purchase and whether both components are included. Save that answer, the record URLs, verification date and enrollment terms.
A useful question to send the school: “Which state-approved course rows and delivery columns cover my 60-hour and 15-hour courses? Are any meetings or assessments scheduled? Please send the completion rules, full price, access deadline and refund terms for this exact package.”
A public record showing the online-distance option
The state course record for Colibri Real Estate, LLC displays an Online Distance mark for its 15-hour pre-license Applied R.E. Principles - Interactive course, as well as a separate row for its 60-hour topics course. The record displayed October 22, 2026 when checked October 23. This illustrates how an approved online-distance applied course appears in the directory.
This is a record-reading example, not a provider recommendation. It does not establish current seats, a particular product's price, its device support or teaching quality. Check the actual course and package before enrolling.

Which format fits your schedule and learning habits?
- You want to ask questions during a lesson. Compare live webinars and their meeting times. Ask who teaches, how questions are handled and what happens if you miss a session.
- Your shifts change each week. Look for approved online distance education for both components if you cannot commit to live meetings. Ask how much work is independently scheduled and whether any activities or assessments have fixed times.
- You are considering a home-study topics course. Plan its required proctored final and separately verify an allowed format for the applied course. Do not assume one self-study product covers all 75 hours.
Ask for a sample lesson or platform demonstration before deciding. Can you follow the explanation, work through a calculation and get help when a rule is unclear? Approval confirms the course category and delivery permission. It does not answer those teaching-fit questions.
Example: no live meetings can still mean interactive learning
In this fictional comparison, Luis works rotating hospital shifts. Package A has approved online-distance records for both components. Its platform records responses, checks comprehension and verifies identity. Package B describes all 75 hours as non-interactive home study.
Package A's lack of scheduled meetings does not make it invalid. Luis still needs its exact approval and completion terms. Package B's description does not fit the applied course, so he should ask the provider to identify that component's approved format before paying.
Change the facts: Package B also maps both components to approved online-distance records and verifies participation and comprehension. It could then be an option without live meetings. Luis should compare its actual schedule, support and terms rather than reject it because it is advertised as self-paced.
What attendance, comprehension checks or finals will you need?
Live interactive webinar
Expect participation to be verified. Under Rule 1450.1175's final-exam exemption, webinar attendance is recorded at the beginning and at least once per 50 minutes of instruction through responses to instructor polling. Leaving a webinar running while you work elsewhere does not establish completed attendance.
Online distance education
When the course uses the Rule 1450.1175 exemption, the provider must record responses, verify the 75% minimum comprehension threshold and verify identity at the beginning and conclusion. If you miss the comprehension threshold, the rule requires another opportunity in the same course with randomized questions, choices and answers. It does not promise unlimited retries.
Correspondence or home study
Rule 1450.1105(h) requires a proctored final with at least 25 questions per 15 credit hours and a minimum passing standard of 75%. It may be given at each 15-hour block or the course's conclusion. The current rule permits remote proctoring conducted in accordance with state and federal law. The provider's registration material must explain whether the examination is electronic, paper or both.
Ask the provider which approved completion method applies to each course, how it awards credit and how a failed assessment is handled. A “no final” course can still require verified participation and comprehension. A school assessment is separate from the PSI licensing examination.
If a live connection drops, record the date, missed time and any support response, then ask what completion or makeup step is required. Rule 1450.1100(e)(9) caps makeup credit at 10% of the total credit hours and says a student who misses makeup credit hours fails the course. That is not automatic permission to skip class. Ask how the provider applies the rule to your missed time; a replay alone does not establish credit.
Will your device, connection and accessibility needs fit the course?
Check every required step, not just the lesson player. Ask about the supported browser and operating system, mobile access, camera or microphone requirements, identity verification, uploads, assessments and any remote proctoring. Run the provider's system check on the device and network you plan to use.
If you need captions, accessible course materials, assistive-technology support or an accommodation, ask how to arrange it before enrolling. Ask who handles technical problems, when help is available and how a disruption affects attendance or a timed assessment.
The course platform and any school-final system are separate from PSI's exam platform. Device approval from the school does not establish that the same device meets the later PSI remote-exam requirements.
How should you compare the full cost and terms?
Request a dated written quote for the same required education from every provider. Keep optional exam prep on a separate line so a larger bundle does not appear cheaper merely because its access period or included services differ.

Rule 1450.1100(e)(4) requires pre-enrollment information about the course and delivery method, tuition, refund policy and specified additional materials charges. Ask about the other package-specific terms above as well. A published refund policy does not guarantee that a particular withdrawal will produce a refund.
Use the license-cost guide to keep the education quote separate from later licensing costs. Do not rely on an old advertised starting price or an unexplained pass-rate claim.
What should you do when the online coursework is finished?
Check the completion records for both approved components. Verify your name, provider, courses, hours and completion dates, and ask for corrections promptly. Keep copies of the certificates and the enrollment terms.
For the standard route, the current PSI booklet directs candidates to create an Illinois account and upload the course certificate for review and approval. Course access ending, a school congratulatory message or a practice score is not PSI eligibility confirmation. The 75-hour guide explains the full sequence.
Keep the school's access deadline separate from completed-education validity and exam scheduling. Before choosing a test date, check your education-validity window and build a study schedule that leaves time to review the national and Illinois material.
Questions about online Illinois pre-license classes
Can I take all 75 Illinois broker pre-license hours online?
Yes, if both required courses and their delivery methods are approved. The standard package is 60 topics hours and 15 applied hours. The applied course may be an interactive webinar or approved online distance education; it cannot be correspondence or home study.
Does the 15-hour applied course have to be a live webinar?
No. Rule 1450.1105(b)(2) also permits approved online distance education. Rule 1450.100 defines that as interactive education outside real time through an Illinois instructor or a learning management system. Verify the exact approved course and format rather than assuming every applied course has scheduled meetings.
Is self-paced online learning the same as home study?
Not necessarily. Self-paced describes scheduling, not the official delivery category. Approved online distance education can verify participation and comprehension through an instructor or learning management system. Non-interactive correspondence or home study uses a proctored final and cannot supply the applied 15 hours.
Will an online course require a final exam?
It depends on the approved completion method. Correspondence or home-study pre-license courses require a proctored final. Qualifying live-webinar and online-distance courses can use the final-exam exemption under Rule 1450.1175, with participation and comprehension requirements still in place. Ask for the written policy for each component.
Can I watch a recording instead of attending a live class?
A recording alone does not establish approved attendance or makeup credit. Ask the provider what happens if you miss a session or lose the connection, what makeup work is allowed and whether your completion date changes. Obtain the answer before enrolling if your work schedule could conflict.
Can I complete the course on my phone?
Check the whole process with the provider: lessons, interactive activities, identity checks, assessments, any proctoring and certificate access. A mobile-friendly sales page does not establish that every required step supports your phone. The provider's course system and the later PSI exam have separate technical requirements.
How much do online Illinois real estate classes cost?
Compare current written quotes for the complete required education. A starting price may omit the applied course, materials, proctoring, reassessments, extensions or certificate charges. Identify optional prep separately and ask whether PSI and license-application fees are included. The state approval record is not a price quote.
How quickly can I finish an online course?
The approved delivery method, required participation, assessments, class dates and access term determine the calendar. Flexible access does not erase course-credit requirements. Check when the applied component is available and when the provider issues the completion record before planning a PSI appointment.
Which online school is best for me?
Verify the exact approved courses first. Then compare the schedule, a sample lesson, instructor access, technical fit, assessment process, complete price and refund terms. A state listing establishes course approval, not a teaching-quality ranking or a verified pass rate.
Does the online course include the PSI licensing exam?
Ask what the package actually pays for. A school final, optional practice test and PSI licensing exam are separate assessments. For the standard route, the PSI booklet directs candidates to upload the course certificate for eligibility review. Course completion alone is not PSI approval or an active broker license.
